Scarisoara Cave or Scarisoara Glacier housed the largest underground glacier in Romania. From here comes the name of Glacier and Scarisoara comes from Scarisoara commune located 16 km below, which belonged administratively at the time it was baptized. It now belongs to the commune of Gārda de Sus, Alba County.
The entrance to the glacier at Scarisoara is through an impressive aven, whose mouth, with a diameter of 60m, opens in the forest on the edge of the plateau. A narrow trail dug in the rock and some metal stairs anchored in the walls make it possible to lower the 48 m as it measures the depth of the trench. A thick layer of snow is kept on its bottom all year round. Here it enters the Great Hall through an impressive portal measuring 24 m wide and 17 m high.

The authors assume that this is a process of water condensation around the forming ions, that is, a process analogous to that of the Wilson chambers. Another interesting feature is the presence of muscles on the floor of the hall. It is Thamnium alopecurum L. and Oxyrrhynchium praelongum (Hedw.), Forms that grow under water and indicate as such the maximum level of lake growth.
