Decebal's statue near Dubova is the largest stone sculpture in Europe and as a size it is the second place in the world.
Its realization cost over a million dollars. It is 55 m high and is located on the rocky bank of the Danube, between the towns of Echelni?a and Dubova.
The statue represents Decebal, the last king of Dacia and is carved on a rock. The businessman and the historian protocronist Iosif Constantin Dr?gan was the one who promoted and financed the idea of this work carried out between 1994 and 2004.
Former sanctuary of Zamolxis - Veterans Cave in Danube Clisura
After the confluence with the Plavisevita stream, the Danube enters the third narrowing sector, the Great Boilers, flanked by the limestone cliffs of Ciucarul Mare (316 m) and of its Serbian neighbor, Veliki Strbac (768 m).
The walls of the Large Boilers have heights of over 200 m, and the average width of the riverbed is 150 m. In the walls of Ciucarului Mare there are several caves, of which two are more important, Gura Ponicovei and Veterani.
Gura Ponicovei cave has several levels of galleries, the lower ones being active. Of the fossil galleries, the most spectacular is the Concretionary Gallery, as well as the Column Hall.
Here, water and time created stalactites and stalagmites of different shapes and sizes, domes and columns, white calcite flooring, gurus, cave pearls, drapes, etc. Also in this cave were found bones of bear and cave hyena, as well as of Halstattian culture.
Veterans cave is known from ancient times, being consecrated by Dacians as sanctuary of the god Zamolxis.
