Sinaia Monastery - The backfill of Mihail Cantacuzino (1650-1716), accompanied by his family, being on a pilgrimage to the holy places reached Mount Sinai, where he visited an old Orthodox monastery of St. Catherine (4th century). Impressed by what he saw, he decided to build a monastery in this place bearing the name of Mount Sinai. Subsequently, the name "Sinaia" extended to the locality. The monastery dedicated to St. Mary was built between 1690 and 1695.
