The Dambovicioarei Gorges - are an important component of the largest gorge complex in the country (the one focused on Dambovita and its tributaries), which encompasses over 20 keys, with a total length of more than 30 km. The depth of the Dambovicioara brook in the Jurassic limestone of Pietrei Craiului generated a 8 km long key-chain, with the appearance of a true canyon, cut into a rock stack of limestone bridges in the end of the massif. The gorges are of epigenetic origin, as the river has originally deepened into less harsh sedimentary formations (sandstones, conglomerates), and when it reached the limestone level, its erosion continued, generating the respective narrow valleys.
Dambovicioara's own keys, dug about 2 km in the limestone bridge between Dambovicioara and Dambovita, are remarkably monumental, due to the vertical walls or even bent over the bed, with heights exceeding 200 m. On the surface of the walls can be seen the stratification of the Jurassic gray-white-glossy Jurassic limestones, placed in thick junctures, at the bottom, and the white limestones (lower crests), in boards, at the top.
Piatra Craiului National Park - is located in the districts of Brasov and Arges, respectively Zarnesti, Moeciu, Rucar and Dambovicioara, including the Piatra Craiului massif and an area comprising the Gorges of Dambovita and Ghimbav.
