Vila Maria Dâmbovicioara - accommodation in Piatra Craiului (Surrounding)

Dambovicioarei Gorges - are a significant component of the largest complex of gorges in the country (the one focused on Dambovita and its tributaries), which totals over 20 gorges, with a total length of over 30 km. The deepening of the Dambovicioara river in the Jurassic limestones of Pietra Craiului generated a sector of gorges over 8 km long, with the appearance of a real canyon, cut in the rock stack of the limestone bridges on the terminal part of the massif. The gorges are of epigenetic origin, since the river initially deepened in less hard sedimentary formations (sandstones, conglomerates), and when it reached the level of limestones, its erosion continued, generating the respective narrow sectors of the valleys.

The actual gorges of Dambovicioara, excavated over a length of approximately 2 km in the limestone bridge between the Dambovicioara depressions and the Dambovitei Bridge, stand out for their monumental aspect, thanks to the vertical walls or even leaning over the bed, with heights that in some places exceed 200 m. On the surface of the walls, you can see the stratification of the gray-white-glossy Jurassic limestones, arranged in thick banks, on the lower part, and the white limestones (Lower Cretaceous), in slabs, on the upper part.

Piatra Craiului National Park - is located within the Brasov and Arges counties, respectively the Zarnesti, Moeciu, Rucar and Dambovicioara localities, including the Piatra Craiului massif and an area including the Dambovitei Gorge and the Ghimbavului Gorge. Located in the Southern Carpathians, the park includes the approximately 25 km long massif between Zarnesti and Rucar, being bounded by the Bran-Rucar corridor and the Dambovicioara river to the east and southeast, by the Dambovita and Tamas rivers to the east and the Barsa river to the north. Access to the massif can be done either through Plaiul Foii or through Curmatura.

Location: near the village of Podu Dambovitei - located at the foot of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, 5 km from Rucar, on the Rucar-Bran route, 25 km from Campulung and 177 km from Bucharest.

Dambovicioara Cave - is located in the southern part of the Piatra Craiului Massif, on the left side of the Dambovicioara valley (a tributary of the Dambovitia), 1 km north of the village of Dambovicioara, Arges county. The cave was formed due to the action of the waters of the Dambovicioara river, which cut into the Jurassic-age limestones of the Piatra Craiului Massif.

The cave has been arranged and is frequented by a significant number of tourists.
